ZOMG! Carrie turns 50 today! Let’s rock ‘n roll baby!

March 21 is the 80th day of the year, there are 285 days remaining until the end of the year.

March 21st is the common date of the March equinox – meaning yes, I’m a spring chicken!. In astrology, the day of the equinox is the first full day of the sign of Aries. It is also the traditional first day of the astrological year.

It’s also my 50th birthday. Yikes! How did this happen?

At least I’m in good company – celebrating the big 5-0 with Rosie O’donnell and Matthew Broderick. It’s like we’re triplets…..=)

So, what’s all happened in the past 50 years? Almost too much to imagine. Color television and digital cameras. Disco and rap. Microwave ovens and the PC. The first man on the moon and Facebook.

I used to be in awe of a friend of mine who remembers the ball point pen being invented. But then I realized I was there for the invention of the iPhone and iPad. I own a Kindle Fire. Who’d have thunk it? I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee years ago and I know how to use Wifi. People live longer with bypass surgery and I can talk – or text – to anyone, anytime thanks to my Blackberry. I have GPS in my car, satellite TV in my house and can Twitter from virtually anywhere.

Amazing isn’t it?

What inventions have YOU seen developed in your lifetime that you couldn’t live without?

ps – and Happy Birthday to Rosie and Matthew! Call me sometime!

  • Happy Birthday! Hope you have an awesome day — and month. You know how I feel about celebrating a birthday for the entire month. 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! They say 50 is the new 20, right?? (Which would make me 10 so I’m good with that.) I think I’m most amazed by the phone stuff. As a teen I was laying on the floor in our hallway where I’d stretched the cord as far as it would go. The cord on the phone attached TO THE WALL that is. The one with push buttons and no caller ID. I know we got along just fine not being able to call anyone anytime from anywhere, but I’ll be damned if I remember HOW.

    • lol..I thought 50 was the new 30…..either way, as long as I’m not REALLY 50!!!! The phone stuff is amazing – I remember my first cell phone….about the size of a piece of Samsonite luggage!

Inventions in my lifetime that I can’t live without?…ummm…post-it notes, velcro, contact lenses, Lava lamps, Starbucks, Etch-a-Sketches, hand held calculators, digital cameras, Easy Bake oven improvements…
Happy 50th Carrie, AARP won’t know what hit ’em when you join up! Hope you’ll make this a rest of the year celebration and give 50 the attention it deserves! Have FUN!!

  • Callene Rapp:

Happy Birthday, Carrie! I remember the old rotary dial phone and wait for it…party lines! That may have been a rural thing, but it was trippy to pick up the phone and listen to what someone else was saying. Gossip spread like wild fire back in those days…oh wait, it still does thanks to Twitter! LOL!

    • Callene, I missed out on party lines….darnit. =) But I did live in a rural town and sometimes the lines did get crossed and you could hear what the others were saying!

  • Happy Birthday, Carrie!
I can’t do without my computer and printer. I remember, and hated, the dot matrix printers. I used to think electric typewriters were cool until PC’s became affordable. 🙂

  • Happy Happy Birthday to a super fabulous woman! (okay, so it was yesterday, but technically it’s still your birthday week and since Natalie and I always celebrate for at least a week, you’re good to go!).

Microwave ovens. Remember when they first came out? My mom didn’t want us girls to use them because she thought we’d have mutated babies. But apparently my brother’s testicles weren’t in harms way? Ugh.

Hope you party it up and have a blast using your microwave!

    • I live for microwave ovens! Me and Orville Redenbacher are BUDS…..lol….I use it almost every single day…but yeah, I had to stand across the room when it was going!

  • Well, I’m a bit behind, but Happy Birthday! Sorry, but you’re in good company with late birthday wishes. My mother celebrated two decades more than you on the same day. I was late wishing her a happy birthday as well. We were not in a technically advanced zone.

I’ve pretty much seen the same inventions as you, so no surprise there.

Hope you had a great day!

  • Happy Birthday, Carrie. Sorry I’m a bit late, but still – from the bottom of my heart 🙂
My hubby’s birthday is tomorrow (the 25th) and one of my best friend’s birthday was on the 21st.
